Assembly - Thursday 11 March

Assembly brings students together to discuss issues at Durham, vote on the concerns you want the SU to address, and hold the Student Officer team accountable.

A cross-section of student representatives make up the Assembly members. These students attend every Assembly meeting, and are elected to represent your views and vote on motions on behalf of the students they represent.

To increase participation and access in Durham SU's democracy during the pandemic, any students who wish to observe Assembly can register to attend the live Zoom meeting. As with all Assembly meetings, we will also record the event and circulate it afterwards.

Running Assembly meetings online during a pandemic is still relatively new to us, so we’re trying out different ideas to make sure online Assembly works well for students. This time, we’ll be starting at the earlier time of 16:00. As always, we’d welcome your thoughts on whether this works for you at dsu.governance@durham.ac.uk after the meeting.

Some things to note:

  • Student observer places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
  • Student observers must register for a ticket before 18:00 on Wednesday 10 March.
  • Student observers must arrive at 15:45. You will be admitted into the Zoom waiting room along with Assembly members. This is to give us time to check the register, before admitting students. With the additional observers, this will take much longer than usual and any late arrivals will delay the start of the meeting, so it’s really important that you arrive on time.
  • Only voting members of Assembly can vote. Student observers may raise points using the chat function, but will not be allowed to vote. You can find a list of voting members on the Assembly page here.
  • This is the first time we are running Assembly this way. Like many things during the pandemic, we’re having to adapt, so please bear with us if proceedings are less smooth than we would like. We also welcome any feedback!
