A bit about me...

Hi, I’m Abi, your Student Union President! A little about me: my family are from Dorset, but I have fallen in love with the North East during my time at Durham and I am proud to call it my home! I have just graduated with a degree in Combined Honours in Social Sciences (focused on politics and sociology), meaning at any given moment you will probably find me listening to a current affairs podcast! I have been interested in politics and the power of decision-making bodies since I was a teenager, fascinated by the power of institutions to uplift or damage my local community. I have since spent a lot of time at university in student activism, from fossil free careers to the living wage campaign. My ability to attend university as a woman and as a low-income student is entirely owed to students, staff and legislators before me who were intent on seeing social change. And whether it is safe and affordable student housing, increased access or ethical investment, I am intent on believing that the Students’ Union has the power to influence bolder, braver and more progressive policy which uplifts and empowers students.

I am your president so please drop in and introduce yourself! You can find me in the top floor of the SU, or via my email! I am really keen to support the work of students- whether it’s campaigns, societies or welfare, please get me in the loop!
