SU Officer elections: roles, dates, nominations and support

Get paid to lead an area of the SU. You'll support activities, address issues, and bring student ideas to life - ensuring everyone can hear your voices loudly and clearly.

Roles

Officer role descriptions:

The next round of elections are the Autumn Elections, taking place in October 2025. These elections are focussed on postgraduate students

Roles are:

  • Postgraduate Research Students Officer (part time)
  • Postgraduate Taught Students Officer (part time)

You can express an interest or ask for more information about the roles here. If you are about to start studying at Durham but don't have your student account details yet, this is the best form for you to fill in! We'll keep in touch with you and make sure you are able to submit your nomination once term starts.

Wages and hours

Full-time Officer

  • Salary: £23,623 minimum (currently under review)
  • Hours: 35 hours per week

Part-time Officer

  • Wage: £12.60 per hour (this is in line with the Living Wage Foundation)
  • Hours: 7 hours per week with some flexibility

Student Trustee

  • Voluntary
  • Hours: approximately 6 per term

Key Dates

Autumn elections

Sunday 14 September: Nominations open

Sunday 19 October (midnight): Nominations close

Tuesday 21 October (13:00-14:00): Candidate training

Monday 27 October (09:00): Candidates announced and voting opens

Friday 31 October (16:30): Voting closes and results communicated to candidates (provided all complaints are resolved)

Monday 3 November: Results communicated to students

w/c 3 November: Induction and roles begin!

  • We know that elections can be stressful, so SU staff members will be available to provide support throughout the elections process.
