Advertising Policy

What we believe

All advertising content should be produced with responsibility to our members, consumers, and members of wider society. Durham SU also aims to ensure that:

  • Any commercial advertising is not damaging to Durham SU’s objects, members, work, integrity, or reputation.
  • Commercial advertising must not damage or influence the independence and impartiality of Durham SU and its activities.
  • Commercial advertising must be relevant and suitable for our members.

Competitors

Companies or organisations that constitute direct competition with Durham SU outlets and services, and on occasion with Durham University outlets or services when advertising is undertaken on University premises outside of Dunelm House, will only be permitted to advertise with agreement by the Deputy Director of Services.

Exclusivity Agreements

Our media partner in fulfilling Durham SU’s media advertising partnership may enter into exclusivity agreements which do not contravene anything stated in this policy.

Charities

Only charities that are registered as a charity in England and Wales will be able to advertise to students and will be eligible to receive the charity rate for such advertising. We will only support charities to advertise to students in instances where the charitable work undertaken is of interest to our members or promotes the advancement of education of Durham students.
