Candidate Profile

Tell us about yourself

I am a 2nd year Accounting & Finance student and my college is St Hild & St Bede. I am from Pakistan, but I have lived most of my life in London. Last year, I was the Events Officer of Durham People of Colour Association, and currently, I am the President of Pakistan Society. Moreover, I play polo for Team Durham and in my free time, I love to do poetry.

Why is the role important to you?

There are several reasons why this role is important to me. Firstly, I like to challenge myself with this responsibility, and I love the leadership roles where I can portray my skills. Moreover, I want to create a positive and inclusive academic environment for all the students. I care about representing students' interests and fostering the campus community. For all the international students I want to make a home away from home atmosphere. The changes I want to see is that the students are not being dictated by the landlords and no form of discrimination at work or any at part of the university. Secondly, I want 1st and 2nd year students to get brief guidance on internships and placement opportunities. Moreover, I want to provide E-Bikes in all the colleges. Most importantly, I want to create an online portal where all the students can give suggestions and feedback anonymously.

Why should people vote for you?

First of all, I am a very friendly and outgoing person who fits in well in every group. Secondly, I possess an attribute like strong communication and will explain my vision to all the students. Moreover, I will ask students to address their interests and as an empathetic person, I will consider those interests in the best way possible. My main aim will be to commit with all the students that I will bring a positive change, and I will work hard on that.

If elected, what sort of officer would you be?

I will be an approachable and interactive officer. Since I will be approachable, I will be updated with students' concerns. Also, I will be taking feedback from the students and implementing the ones that will be needed to make Durham a better place. As being an SU President, I will be planning on holding various cultural events where all the students from different backgrounds indulge and feel like home. Bringing all the students together is going to be my main objective.

In one sentence, tell us what you imagine Durham could become

In my vision, Durham will become home to majority of the students with high student participation, and equal opportunities for everyone and under my leadership I plan to make Durham inclusive in every aspect.
