The student group for animal rights and Welfare at the University of Durham (DARAWS) are a passionate and dedicated community of students who are committed to advocating for the ethical treatment of animals. We are united in the belief that animals deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and that their welfare should be protected and prioritised.
This society provides a platform for likeminded individuals to come together and work towards a common goal of creating a more compassionate and just world for animals. As a society, we strive to create a safe and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. We encourage open discussions and respectful debates to promote critical thinking and learning.
Membership in this society is open to all students, regardless of their degree program or academic background. It offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to meet new people, share experiences, and contribute to a meaningful cause. The society’s activities include organising events such as themed Bar crawls, workshops, campaigns, and a Jungle ball! all these efforts aim to raise awareness about animal rights and welfare issues on campus and in the wider community. Collaborations will also take place where members may volunteer at animal shelters or engage in advocacy work to promote animal-friendly policies at the university and in local government. The DARAWS is a dynamic and enthusiastic community that is dedicated to promoting compassion and respect for all living beings. Their efforts are driven by a shared commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of animals and creating a more humane and just society
