BRINGING STUDENTS TOGETHER SINCE 1899
We exist to help you make memories and friends, explore and discover who you are, and be the person you want to be!
Here, you’ll find a warm welcome to the things you care about and the new things you want to try. Durham SU gives you a chance to meet new people from across the University, whatever your college or department.
Since 1899, students have come together through Durham Students’ Union to spend time with and stand up for each other. Today we’re a charitable organisation, all Durham students are our members, and we’re run by hundreds of student volunteers and elected student leaders.

Student groups and Associations
With over 300 student groups to choose from, there’s something for every interest – and plenty you’ve yet to discover. From performance and politics to outdoor adventure and cultural societies, you’ll find spaces to connect, create, and be part of something bigger.
Give It A Go!
Keep an eye on our socials for free student group Give It A Go sessions. You might just find the thing – or the people – that define your time at university or even transform your life!
ASK
If you need a helping hand while at Durham, the Union’s ASK (Advice, Support, Knowledge) service is there for you. ASK is the first point of contact if you have a question or problem. Whether that’s advice with housing, academic or welfare issues or dealing with student group queries, you'll find what you need to help make student life easier to navigate.

MAKE CHANGE
Challenge the norm and spark something new—work with student leaders to build stronger communities across Durham. Whether it’s the things you love or the issues that need fixing, your voice drives the change.
Campaigns
Students come together to campaign on important issues, from the climate crisis to cost of living. What issue would you campaign on?
Student Leader and volunteering opportunities
There’s lots of opportunities for you to express your voice, support others and lead your Union, from getting involved in our democracy, being an active bystander to taking up one of our student leadership roles.
Roles include Academic Reps, Student Group Execs and Student Officers.
Student Officers listen and represent your views to the University. You can run to be a full-time or part-time Officer later in the year.
Meet your full-time and part-time Student Officers here: Student Officers @ Durham SU
Every Durham student is a member of their SU, and every year they come together and vote for who they want to represent them.
