International Student Guarantor Scheme

Some international students may have noticed that, for legal reasons, you need a UK-based guarantor to rent a property. The alternative to this is to pay 6-12 months' rent upfront, about £4000 - £8000. Obviously either option is very difficult for most international students, many of whom are here on grants with monthly allowances.

I propose that the University set up a Guarantor Scheme where they are able to guarantee international students who are unable to take either of the options. This is done in LSE, the University of York, and the University of Surrey to name a few.

International students are an important part of the student body and with the precedent of the international student fee freeze, I am confident that the university understands this and will be willing to help.
