Encouraging the use of local businesses

As the University faces some local opposition to its new estates masterplan and other policies (and there has been recent tension between the student and local communities), I believe it would be interesting to create resources/campaign events to encourage students to make use of locally-run independent businesses. This may comprise several elements:
- A database/directory of independent businesses and the services they provide
- Price-matches
- Producing a resource for music/drama groups with alternative local (and SU) venues for use in the 2018-19 academic year (while the Assembly Rooms Theatre is closed for renovation)
- Interviews with students about their favourite local cafe's, eateries, independent shops, etc.
It is important that this would not be seen as an attack on large companies (which employ a lot of students and local people and support the local economy), but rather a way to decrease the hegemony these businesses have by promoting student traffic amongst the small independent businesses.
