Durcare front

The first part of this campaign would involve giving out free 'care packages' at different events and venues. These would contain harm reduction information leaflets for specific drugs (including alcohol), information about relevant organisations (e.g. the Loop, Release) and about the local services available (University counselling service, Co Durham drug and alcohol recovery service) to students who might have concerns about drugs. Care packages would also include items like ear plugs and hearing safety information, condoms, straws. Care packages could be tailored depending on the event or venue, for instance focusing more on alcohol awareness at formals and balls or on study drugs during the summative and exam seasons.

The second part would involve creating personalised drug safety packs that include EZ reagent test kits and information leaflets/cards related to the particular drug(s) being tested for. For instance, a student might request an ecstasy test kit from us and we would supply this along with reputable ecstasy harm reduction information, produced either by Exchange Supplies (recommended to me by Dr Fiona Measham, former sociology professor at Durham and head of the Loop drug testing charity) or by DanceSafe (endorsed by SSDP International).

We would like to provide these materials for free, which is why we would like support from the DSU to run this campaign.
