Donald Trump wins 2024 United States Presidential Election
On November 5th, American voters went to the polls to elect a new President, House of Representatives, one-thirds of the Senate, as well as state assemblies. The Republican Party secured a Trifecta - winning majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as giving Donald Trump, alongside Vice-President Elect J.D. Vance to an unprecedented non-consecutive second term. With a tough anti-immigration agenda as well as a different attitude on both China and Russia, it will be interesting to see where the United States will reorient.

Free trade agreement between Hong Kong and Peru ‘to be expected’
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee had recently travelled to Lima, Peru for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, meeting with world leaders including Chinese Chairman Xi JinPing and U.S. President Joe Biden. Some suspect that John Lee’s active involvement will be beneficial to Hong Kong’s digitalisation while promoting sustainable trade growth. His first official visit to South America might also bring in a free trade agreement with Peru, strengthening Hong Kong trade. Efforts have also been made in strengthening Hong Kong’s application in joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) as Lee met with officials from the RCEP in Lima.
