Description

Durham University Dancesport Team (DUDT) is a competitive Ballroom and Latin American dance society. The team competes at various inter-varsity competitions across the UK in regional and national competitions. We have lessons once a week led by our external coach and practices run by the executive committee many times a week. The membership fee covers all lessons for the entire year and access to all practice spaces. 

The team is often invited to perform at various college events throughout the year; in the past year we have performed at Hild Bede, Castle, and Van Mildert Balls. We also organise one of Durham's most exciting events: Durham Does Strictly!

DUDT is a big family of fantastic dancers and a major part of any member's university experience. You do not need any prior dance experience to join our team - beginners encouraged!

The teams’ aims include representing Durham University across the UK to the best of our abilities. We hope to promote the sport of Ballroom and Latin American dancing no matter their level. Our team has a strong supporting relationship between the different levels of dancing.

TEAM AIMS:

• To promote Ballroom and Latin dancing across a diverse group of people. We welcome people from all walks of life, and knowing how expensive having dancing as a hobby can be, we aim to make this activity accessible and affordable via subsidies and team equipment.
• To offer quality, professional coaching for dancing and an alternative to social dancing which could limit standard of dance.
• To increase confidence of students by encouraging participation in competitions. We aim to make members confident in their abilities, and hope that this personal belief is displayed in other aspects of life.
• To create a TEAM. DUDT does not solely see itself as a society. As a team we aim to encourage values of support, acceptance, and kindness.

We don’t only offer you the opportunity to become a Ballroom sensation, we also show you the fun, friendship, and rhinestones that come along with it!
