Roisin Cunningham
Trustee candidate

About yourself

I am a first year Primary Education student at St Mary’s college. I am from a state non- grammar school in Northern Ireland and have dyspraxia, so I believe that I could bring a unique perspective to the role of student trustee.

Relevant Experience

I have embraced all of the opportunities which Durham has gave me as an active member of my college, representing them as a Post Offer Visit Day representative and as a Frep for 2025, as well as on stage through their musical and pantomime performances and on the football and netball pitch, all of which allowing me to work as part of a team. I also represent Durham University by promoting my department at events and through DU touch rugby, aerial arts and the dance sport team and have been selected to be on the exec for two of these, enhancing my leadership potential stemmed from my experience as a scout leader and leader of my school’s debate club.

Outside of Durham, my flair for youth voice is evident as I was one of sixteen young people who represented Save The Children UK as a member of their youth advisory board which allowed me to speak about being a young person today at internal meetings, being involved in interview panels for various staff, including the CEO and externally as part of the Tony Blair’s institute for youth change initiative. Furthermore, I am currently a UK youth ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh’s award which gave me public speaking experience as I delivered a speech at the gold awards in Buckingham palace and attended a focus group with the Department of Education discussing sustainability and climate education. Finally I am a recently appointed member of the charity Flip Gen’s youth advisory board who promote digital wellbeing.
