Hi! I am Oliver a 3rd year biologist who has a keen passion for charity governance and student democracy. When I am not doing my degree I am Treasurer of the St. John's Common Room, and can also be found watching Married at First Sight Australia (I would recommend watching!!!)
Having been a SU Student Trustee over the past year, I have developed a strong understanding of how the SU operates, its charitable objectives and the strategic direction that the SU is taking to improve the experience of students at Durham. Serving on the Board has been a fantastic experience and I am seeking re-election to continue contributing to the SU’s vision and strengthen its governance through a consistent student presence (me!).
Being on the Board has helped me become an effective trustee as I feel comfortable scrutinising reports, evaluating the performance of SU activities and ensuring that decisions made are in the interest of all Durham students. I am especially interested in ensuring that the SU’s funds are being spent well to improve the student experience at Durham.
Beyond this role, I am also heavily involved in the St. John’s Common Room where I am Treasurer and also sit on our own trustee board. This role has developed my accountability as I regularly provide financial updates to our trustees and ensure we are meeting our charitable objectives. Additionally, this role has taught me how to think and act strategically, all of which are important skills for being a SU Trustee.
Therefore, you should vote for me as I am accountable, experienced and student-focused. I always have the interests of Durham students in mind whilst ensuring the SU remains legally compliant, financially sustainable and well governed.
