Update from George: what does value for money mean to you?

With students paying so much for their University experience, it’s incredibly important that the quality of this experience is as high as possible, and that costs are transparent and affordable for all students. At Durham SU, we’ve worked this year on researching the overall cost of the Durham student experience and on the transparency of additional student experience charges. Now we would also like to find out what a value for money University experience means to students.

The new regulator for UK Universities, the Office for Students, is currently scrutinising the extent to which Universities provide ‘Value for Money’ (VfM) for students. In response, Durham University have set up their own Value for Money Committee, to oversee the University’s delivery of VfM.

We’ve managed to get the University to agree to have a student representative sitting on this committee, and we want to use this representation to make sure the views of students and the student interest are central to the University’s work in this area. We want to hear your views on what ‘value for money’ means to you, so that we can put forward our own student definition of VfM and make sure that the work of the committee benefits Durham students.

That’s why I want to ask you the question: ‘As a Durham University student, what does the University providing ‘Value for Money’ mean to you?’ We’ve set up a form to get your views, so please let us know what you think. The responses to the question will feed into the creation of a student VfM definition, which will be submitted to the next SU Assembly meeting on 20 June for approval by student representatives. We’ll then use the approved definition to help inform our work with the University committee

Tell us what ‘Value for Money’ means to you here.
