Update from Charlie: additional college and student experience charges

I’m pleased to announce that the University have launched a central page listing all of the additional costs associated with colleges and the student experience in Durham. This is the result of a project that colleges, Experience Durham, and the Students’ Union have fed into over the past year, aiming to collect information on extracurricular costs and present this to students in an accessible format. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project by providing this information.
Being transparent with students about the cost of the student experience is the first step in addressing these costs and ensuring that everyone can afford to participate. This project will contribute to Durham SU’s work to address the general cost of being a Durham student. The SU is currently working on developing a position on cost and ‘Value for Money’ at Durham. My priority is to ensure that wider student experience costs, like membership of student groups or the cost of playing a sport, are considered on equal terms with academic costs in line with the University’s strategy, which puts the wider student experience on a par with education and research.
