As recently reported by Palatinate, the University is planning to restructure support staffing within academic departments. The changes are set to be in place for the 2019/20 academic year, and will affect administrative staff across all faculties.

We have been and will continue to be in contact with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor who is leading on this review, in order to understand the potential impact of any changes to academic administrative staff structures on students. Assurances have been made that the aim of the review is not to reduce the overall level of support available within departments, and we will be following the review closely to ensure this is adhered to.

In this time of University expansion and alongside other reviews affecting staff, the University must evidence how any changes made will be of benefit to the wider University community. Staffing levels in some departments clearly need to increase in order to do this, and this review must not simply be a cost-cutting exercise. We will be working alongside faculty and course reps and liaising with University management to best understand the impacts of the proposed changes. We will also ensure these are properly communicated, and will author a submission to the review that will accurately reflect any concerns that students have.
