PG Academic Officer Elect Announcement

Our incoming Postgraduate Academic Officer, Cynthia Lawson, has made the decision to step down from her upcoming role. Cynthia has made this decision so that she can focus on her upcoming PhD studies. Although we are, of course, sad to see Cynthia go, we fully support her decision and believe this is the right thing for her at this time. Having run a fantastic campaign during the Officer elections in February we would like to thank Cynthia for putting herself forward and getting involved in student democracy. Durham SU would like to wish Cynthia every success in her studies and all the best for the future.

This means that we will be holding a by-election to fill the role of Postgraduate Academic Officer for 2022-23. You can find the full details and important dates on our website here. Officers these days get paid a salary to work for a year being a leader of change. This role is offered at between 60-100% of a full-time role, depending on the needs and preferences of the successful candidate. The role will start on 1 August 2022, although there is some room for negotiation on a start date.

Being an Officer is an important job, you help bring students together from across Durham University to make student life better. The Postgraduate Academic Officer represents postgraduate students’ academic interests, fights to improve postgraduate participation and experience, and liaises with the University to ensure postgraduate students have the best possible experience at Durham. As with all the Officer roles you will also be a Trustee of Durham Students’ Union. Find the full job description here.
