Wednesday 5 June 2024 marks World Environmental Day. To celebrate, we are spotlighting the annual Green Move Out, coordinated by the Greenspace Team and student and staff volunteers.
What is Greenspace?
The University’s Energy and Sustainability Team deliver Greenspace, which promotes all of the University’s environmental policies, plans and procedures. Greenspace also coordinates environmental events, initiatives and campaigns across the University with the help of their Environment Champions, Student Representatives and Steering Groups.
What initiatives do you run?
The Greenspace Team coordinate the annual Green Move Out, helping students to move out sustainably while supporting local charities. Look out for your purple bag arriving soon!
Greenspace hosts the MyGreenspace app where staff and students win prizes for logging their sustainable actions, such as taking a lunchtime walk, growing their own vegetables or recycling their waste.
The Team host the annual Greenspace Festival. This year, the festival takes place on 3 June at Fountains Hall, Grey College, from 12:30 to 16:30. The event will host stalls and speakers from charities, student groups and external partners, as well as demonstrations and a vintage clothes sale. The SU will also hold their part-time Sustainability Officer election at the event so come along and vote! The event is free and everyone is welcome.
As well as this, the Team coordinate and promote a wide range of campaigns, projects and research, as well as supporting student groups.
How can students get involved?
Students can be part of an environmentally minded society such as DU Climate, DUSEF or Natural History. You can be on the Greenspace Student Environment Group (GSEG), which works alongside the University to create student-led campaigns and projects. Or visit our SharePoint page to find out about our monthly activities in the Greenspace calendar or under ‘events’ and ‘news’. And join the MyGreenspace app, where you can be rewarded for logging your sustainable actions!
