After a successful first term (ever!), the Latin Social Dancing Society decided that holding another Give it a Go session would benefit us in terms of gaining new members and dancers, increasing the number of leads that attend classes, and ensuring that existing members/dancers have a chance to try out different styles we offer. We also believed that it would be a good opportunity to promote upcoming events and in general demonstrate how welcoming and de-stressing the social dancing atmosphere can be to a larger audience.

The event was a success, with more than 50 newcomers in total attending our taster classes of Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba. Before each taster, we introduced the dance style by performing a short demo, which improved the attendees’ motivation and eagerness to try learning the dances. Teachers tried their best to make sure everyone could follow the classes and had a chance to dance with other people, and that in general had a smile on their faces. It was a lovely environment with people meeting each other for the first time, and the exec and regular teachers had a chance to meet and chat with attendees in the short breaks taken between tasters.

We believe that this event introduced the exciting world of Latin social dancing to many more people, which is a passion we wish to share with many others, and was our primary motivation in creating the society in the first place. A few people we have met in the Give it a Go event have become members and attended every session ever since, which makes us feel like we have succeeded massively with our Give it a Go event!
