Course rep wins article

Your course reps have been busy making your deadlines more manageable and listing to your personal feedback.

Benjamin Malz  – PG (LLM) Law

Due to the structure of our programme, which has relatively few contact hours but is assessed by extensive essays, we changed the Law School's policy of only giving out a topic six weeks before the respective deadline. Over Christmas break, this led to heavy workloads for most students as 2 or 3 topics might have been released at almost the same time. Now students can start on their summatives during term time, thus making deadlines in quick succession in March more manageable.

Sarah Garrett  – 3rd Year UG Chinese

In the past months I collected feedback on the course by messaging each student personally. As we are a very small course, this works very well. The main changes that students wanted were regarding different teaching methods, how to make classes more efficient, and clarity about the syllabus. After hearing their feedback I talked to the teachers of the classes individually, who were very cooperative and implemented these changes in class. Furthermore, the students studying Chinese had not been sent an email about the MLAC dissertation lectures. By the time we realised that these lectures were going on, we had already missed two of them. I brought this up in the MLAC student rep meeting and also contacted the coordinator of the dissertation lectures, who kindly agreed to do two separate lectures for the Chinese students and we were also added on the mailing list for future ones.
