Description

Based around the various dances, styles and music of the 1930s-50s, the Swing Society aims to promote a friendly and fun community to learn and socialize. Swing dance, like vintage in general, is seeing a worldwide revival, providing ever more opportunities. As a social dance, members will learn how to dance with anyone to a huge variety of music. Along with relaxed weekly dance classes, the society will run various events throughout the year, from dance socials to get-togethers for drinks and meals; opportunities to make good friends, eat plenty of cake and show of your new moves! We also hope to get groups together to go along to some of the dance events going on around the country, including organising our own swing dance festival right here in Durham itself. All abilities welcome - there’s no need to have danced before. Send us an email or find us on Facebook to find out more.

To promote swing dance and music throughout durham, to bring a wide variety of university members together through the common social interest of dance, and to support and encourage the learning of swing dancing for people of all skill and experience levels. Also to hold weekly swing dance lessons as well as other social events at least once a term.
