As we reach the end of term, we want to say a huge well done for getting this far. This term saw the reintroduction of face-to-face learning and saw student group activites move from Zoom calls to in person. It's been great to have a sense of normality back after the previous restrictions Covid-19 brought to our learning. That does not mean the challenges are over however, and we appreciate that all students' are continuing to follow advice and guidance on Covid-19 to keep all of us safe. There has been some incredible work among the Durham community, though, including those who have found new inventive ways to raise money for charity. And even if you’re biggest achievement this term is make it to the end, that’s enough to be proud of this year.

Over Christmas, we hope you have a restful break. At Durham SU, we will also be taking some time out over the holidays. Our building will be closed from 13 December and we will keep you updated when the building will reopen in the New Year, and the Night-Cab will stop running from the 10 December until 10 January. We hope that with the holidays underway this closure will cause minimum disruption to students.

This means during this time unfortunately you will be unable to reach many of us. This not only applies to contacting us via email, but also via all our social media accounts, including the Officers’ accounts. We will make sure to respond as soon as we can after our return.

We appreciate that though the SU will be closed, you might still need a little help. Here are some ways you can get support over the holidays.

How to get to support if…

You’re struggling with your mental health or wellbeing

For many people, Christmas can be difficult at the best of times and we know this year will be harder than most. It’s completely normal to find yourself feeling worn out, sad, anxious, or any number of things. If these feelings become disruptive to your day-to-day life, however, then you might benefit from reaching out to one of the many different organisations who can help you.

You’re looking for impartial advice and support

The SU Advice Service will be closed from 23 December to 4 January, but you can continue to access our online resources during that time. Many of the resources signpost to external organisations that may still be operating over the holidays, which means you could still reach the help you need.
