Course rep wins article

Your course reps have been doing a brilliant job making sure academic staff are taking your views into account. If you have any issues on your course, remember your course reps are always there to represent you.

So, how have course reps had an impact recently?

Sam Whelan  – 2nd Year Undergraduate Engineering
Following a shock realisation for some that the engineering second year practical project fell after the start of many popular internship schemes, we have managed to help those affected apply for academic leave from this otherwise compulsory project. Many engineers were concerned as the practical course is a requirement to enter third year, but after taking the cases to the Director of Education, allowances have been made for what could be a career-defining week! We have also confirmed that next year's second year engineers will be reminded of the dates much earlier. This will take place in our newly suggested introductory coursework lectures, which will become much more frequent in 2019/20. These will hopefully provide a very valuable insight into practicals and courseworks from the academics who conceived them. We'd like to wish the students undertaking summer placements the very best of luck!

Josie Alderman  – 3rd Year Undergraduate Sport
I have recently been involved in discussing the effectiveness of career support sessions during the post-exam period. In previous years, the career sessions have been held at times which do not suit students (09:00...) and have not been on topics which interest enough students. Therefore, it was discussed what could be done to improve these sessions in the future, including making them afternoon sessions and having PGCE application sessions, CV workshops and mock interview 1-1s for those who want them.
