The SU to start a Zero-Waste Food Co-Op.

The Students union could quite easily found a food co-op where it could sell wholefoods; things like pasta, ground coffee, rice, noodles, grains, cereals, spices, nuts and dried fruit kinds of things. It's been done by a lot of other student unions across the country. I think this could really prove that the SU is committed to being environmentally friendly, AND to supporting students at the same time because it wouldn't be making any profit and it would be cheaper to buy. You could use the space in the SU on certain days for certain hours to place the co-op, or even use space on the science site for example so that students don't have to trek into town to buy foods. You could sell jars or paper bags, or encourage people to re-use things like coffee jars from the supermarket.

- It is a common problem for students that often in one house there is a lot of waste and bins are constantly overflowing which annoys local residents and is obviously bad for the environment. This would be a fantastic way to tackle that.

- This would also be a fantastic way of encouraging students to eat better.

- This could also support durham locals as you could investigate buying food locally.

- This would be cheaper for students.

- This could be a very convenient alternative to going to shops.

This could be really great! And it would be a nice opportunity to offer part time jobs to students too!
