This is a petition asking Durham University to shut down their cash deposits accounts (holding £19.1 Million) with Barclays, which is Europe’s largest financier of fossil fuels, and move providers to an ethical bank.
Abi, the Durham SU President needs to demonstrate student pressure for the next finance committee meeting - 22nd of April – who are considering the change. We are asking Durham University to rule out financing unethical industries, requesting:
- A full movement of funds out of Barclays to a responsible bank such as Unity Trust, as chosen by York St John University when they made the switch.
- A commitment to not transition funds into a cash account with a similarly harmful large banks, such as HSBC, Natwest, Santander and Lloyds.
