Next year, all students will have the chance to delete the outdated rules that stop the students’ union from being innovative in how it represents you.
Right now, we’re stuck with rules that were written before next year’s Freshers were even born. They’re overly complicated, confusing and force the students’ union to spend time and effort doing things students don’t want or need. They’re inflexible, outdated, and get in the way of proper student representation. That needs to change.
You can download and read the proposal to change the articles. We’d love to hear your thoughts or questions. But don’t worry if you don’t – it’s legal and constitutional text, and we know it’s not the easiest read. If you do want to share comments, you can send them to su.governance@durham.ac.uk any time before 12 September 2025.
