Durham Students' Union is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) and so has access to a range of resources and support, which can benefit student groups. As well as the Durham Students’ Union Officers representing you locally, you have representation nationally through the NUS Officers. Student activities are included in the Union Development zone of NUS, for which Richard Brooks is the full-time officer.

NUS is constantly researching ways to support student opportunities (student groups, skills development etc.) at all institutions. Last year NUS released a really useful guidebook for student journalists, and they have lots of useful resources for student activities staff and officers in students' unions. NUS hosts a number of conferences, events and training throughout the year for students, officers and staff. A students' union is a unique working environment and to ensure that Union staff are able to do their best for you NUS provides knowledge and support, which helps them determine best practice for working in a member-led organisation.
