Welcome to Quiz Soc!
Durham University Quiz Soc provides an encouraging space for quizzers of all skill levels to hone their abilities at various formats of quizzing, from those who've never picked up a buzzer to University Challenge champions. We compete in tournaments around the country against teams from other universities, and we've made some great friends along the way :)

We practice and compete in tournaments using the 'quizbowl' format - it's quite similar to University Challenge, with a few notable differences that will be explained at practice. We also plan to run a pub quiz weekly or fortnightly at different college bars throughout Durham, with the goal of doing a quiz at every college at least once!

Membership in DUQS lasts for one year. We've set the price at £10 because we think it strikes a fair balance between allowing everyone to participate, and giving us enough funding to attend tournaments, but if you're experiencing financial hardship and can't afford it, please talk to one of the exec.
We ask that everyone coming to practice regularly purchases a membership for the year. This means that you're more than welcome to come for a few sessions to try it out and get a feel for quizbowl with no obligations, but if you're a fan and want to keep it up, we'd really appreciate you becoming a full member. This will also allow us to contact you with updates about upcoming tournaments and events!
To participate as part of a Durham team at an academic quizbowl tournament, membership is mandatory. This is because we pay for or subsidise tournament entry fees, which can rise to over £100 per team in some cases. It also allows us to purchase equipment necessary to hone our skills, and pay mirror fees to host tournaments.
