Tell students about yourself
Hello. I'm Leo, a keen individual currently studying Ancient History and Archaeology. Ever since I was thirteen, I've been the sole caregiver of my disabled mother. Now that I'm here at Durham, I would love to spread my vast welfare capabilities. As a previous young carer and the president of the up-and-coming Temperance association I would be more than capable to nurture and advocate for the student body.
If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?
As an experienced individual regarding care, I will be an advocate for those who are marginalized within society. Through representation I will bring to light the struggles of those individuals who need a voice. My years of care experience give me the perfect foundation for both aiding and empowering groups of any background. Although I am not perfect, I just know that I could do a service within this role to the voiceless. A main passion of mine will be setting up the Students for Temperance Association which will build a community for those experienced in addiction.
Why is this role important to you?
Through my personal experiences I have seen how the voiceless can be left behind within society. Those who are deemed unfit are thrown away. I will ensure this will never be the case through my commitment to advocacy. This commitment is why the role matters so much to me as I will be able to use my knowledge and experience for the betterment of the student community. Allowing those who feel voiceless to participate in discussion and find community will greatly increase their mental health and wellbeing as well as educate the general populus on hidden struggles people carry. The main goal of my tenure will be this quest for advocacy and inclusion. Encouragement and understanding will be a large part of my philosophy regarding welfare which will allow for my personal experiences to shine through my years of caring for the underrepresented.
What is your pitch to students?
Empathy and nurture are on the decline in this world. I'm here to ensure that no matter what these nurturing skills are never eradicated and the voiceless stay strong. With my heavily experienced caring background and my dedication to advocacy I will push for perfection within welfare.
