Nailah update

It’s finally here! The Decolonise Durham Network is incredibly excited to announce a new opportunity for students to work within their faculty to re-shape your curriculum.

For the last couple of months, I have been working with the University to create a space for innovation and radical thinking, where you can work within your faculties to provide a student perspective on Decolonising the Curriculum. These internships are a paid opportunity for a student from each faculty to work with their Faculty Leads in creating a more critical, inclusive and honest curriculum. The aim is to work towards a curriculum that is reflective of Durham’s student body and our wider society.

It is integral to these internships that they are paid. Too often, the work of decolonisation falls upon the unpaid labour of student volunteers or staff within departments. Commitment to decolonisation needs to come from institutions themselves, and Durham University’s funding of these internships has been encouraging. I hope that the University makes sure that the urgent work of decolonisation remains a priority.

As a network, we want to ensure that this campaign is collaborative and allows for students and staffBlack and white photo of a student at a laptop. Text over the top reads "Decolonising the Curriculum: Student Internships". In the corner is the Decolonise Durham Network logo with an image of the world. to work together to critically engage with knowledge systems. We want to create educational spaces that are transparent, thought provoking and don’t continue to reproduce, oftentimes, violent and Eurocentric pedagogy.

To be part of this vital anti-racist and decolonial work at Durham apply via the link below! The type of work you do could involve interviewing academic staff and students, researching other universities to develop ideas, and delivering workshops to other students.
