Update from Amelia: University Mental Health Day

Wednesday 04-03-2020 - 16:36

University Mental Health Day March 5th 2020Today is University Mental Health Day – a chance for students across the country to reflect on their own mental health and for Universities to consider the ways in which they’re making the mental health of students a strategic priority.

Here at Durham SU, we want to support you in being comfortable to speak about mental health and seek support should you ever need it. We know that University can often be fun, exciting and inspiring, but it can also sometimes feel stressful, overwhelming and lonely. That’s why it’s important to know that there are several places in Durham where you can reach out for support.

To mark University Mental Health Day, we’ve set up an information stall in Kingsgate (on B Level of your Students’ Union building), where you can pick up information leaflets and resources on mental health and wellbeing. You can also get 10% off cake in Kingsgate Bar and Café today, so we encourage you to take the chance to check-in and catch up with a friend or just take some time for yourself to unwind. cake on a plate in Kingsgate

The Student Minds Blog is also encouraging students and recent graduates to share their stories online and raise the student voice on mental health at university. Find out more and use your voice to make mental health a university-wide priority today.

If you think you need some additional help, support or advice about your own or somebody else’s mental health, you can:
•    Request an appointment with the University Counselling Service by calling them on 0191 334 2200 or by e-mailing counsel.service@durham.ac.uk
•    Seek support through the NHS by visiting your GP
•    Self-refer to Talking Changes to access talking therapies in County Durham and Darlington
•    Explore alternative support options available to you by using our Student Signposting Guide, here
