The essentials every fresher should pack!

Whether you’re a last-minute packer, someone who has their suitcase ready for weeks in advance or the person who turns up with themselves and nothing else (yes, that does happen), we know that moving from home to university can be a little overwhelming. That’s why we’ve made up this list of the top ten essential items that every fresher shouldn’t forget to bring when they arrive in Durham.
1) A pack of cards – a game of cards, whether it’s 21, Ring of Fire or good old Go Fish, it’ll be a great way to break the ice with your new college mates!
2) Clothes hangers
3) A hot water bottle – student accommodation is notorious for being a bit chilly now and again. Trust us, it’ll be a lifesaver during the winter months
4) Eye mask and earplugs
5) A bottle opener – make sure you’re the housemate that saves the day by packing the only bottle opener or corkscrew there will be in your flat
6) Extension lead – laptop, lamps, straighteners – it all adds up quickly, so an extension cable is absolutely essential. Don’t forget, if you’re an international student, you may need to bring plug adaptors too
7) Laundry basket
8) Slippers/dressing gown – comfort is key. Pack that Disney dressing gown you live in at home, it’ll be what you miss the most if you don’t!
