Happy Chinese New Year!

By Durham Chinese Students and Scholars Association

Due to the impact of Covid-19, many Chinese students have note returned to the UK. At Durham CSSA, we had to cancel our usual in person Spring Festival Asian Culture Festival and Spring Festival celebration jointly organised by Durham City Government and Durham Chinese School. Instead, we’ve planned online Spring Festival celebrations, including two films for you.

Our first film is an introduction from Chinese students at Durham about the customs of their hometown. You can learn about the customs and characteristics of different regions of China during the Spring Festival and feel the unique Chinese Spring Festival atmosphere.

Watching the Spring Festival celebrations is what everyone looks forward to; however, the Chinese government wants everything to be simple during the Spring Festival this year to reduce the spread of the epidemic. Therefore, we collected some of these traditions in our second video. We want to help you experience the unique culture of China, especially the method of making the LaBa rice porridge, and three other aspects of the unique festival. By experiencing the different cultures of the Spring Festival, you can also learn about the unique atmosphere of the New Year in another country.

Durham CSSA has also co-hosted an online Spring Festival Gala with four other UK universities' CSSA.

Durham CSSA wishes everyone a Happy Chinese New Year and good luck!
