We spoke to Amogh from the South Asian Society to find out how they celebrate the rich culture of South Asia.

Who are you and what’s your role within the student group?

My name is Amogh Naik, I'm a third year Natural Sciences student and I'm the secretary of the South Asian Society.

Describe the society in three words

Inclusive, enthusiastic, casual

Why (in your opinion) is your student group the best in Durham?

The South Asian Society is all about connecting people who are interested in the rich cultures of South Asia. You don't have to be from South Asia yourself - anyone can come along! We hope that our members can share why they love South Asia and educate other members about various aspects of its culture. We also have loads of fun along the way!

What sort of things does your student group get up to?

We have events during all the major South Asian festivals. We also meet up for movies, food and culturally related games.

Which celebrity would you most like to have as a member of your student group?

Amitabh Bachchan - but sadly the closest we will get is watching him onscreen.

What are you most looking forward to in your student group in the upcoming year?

The Bollywood Ball - should be an amazing night! Hope to see you all there!
