Freshers' involves a lot of packing, but have you thought about what's in your wallet?

Railcard

If you’re likely to catch the train to and from Durham a lot, it could be worth buying a 16-25 railcard, as it gets you a third off journeys.

Totum

This new card and app from the National Union of Students will make your money go further, with exclusive discounts on everything from travel and tech, to fashion and beauty brands. You can also check out all our events and student groups on the app.

ID

There’s nothing worse than getting yourself psyched up to go out and being turned away at the door. The walk away from the club gives a whole new meaning to the ‘walk of shame’.

Toastie or coffee loyalty card

Lots of colleges have Toastie or Coffee Bars (or both). If they do a loyalty card, pick one up and carry it with you always. You never know when you’ll need your melted cheese or caffeine fix.

Cash

Carrying cash and no bank card is one of the easiest ways to stop yourself from spending too much on a night out. If you only carry as much money as you’re willing to spend (with some factored in to get home), then it’s only possible to spend that amount.
