Last week, student group committees met up to take part in the SU’s first Student Group Training Academy. The event consisted of an afternoon of workshops and networking to help committees lead their student group’s best year yet.
Sessions were delivered by a variety of people, including SU Staff and those from external organisations. Durham University ran an enlightening session on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Radisson Blue delivered a detailed look into event management. Other sessions included ‘Speed Mating’ and the much-anticipated GDPR...
A few students shared their thoughts about the day with us.
"The workshop provided useful role-specific training and a great opportunity to connect with other societies who we may not have otherwise considered collaborating with. These skills and contacts will help us to develop a more engaging society for our members over the coming year." – Jake Glowienko
“I thought the SU were really clued on about GDPR. That was incredibly helpful.” – Arved Werner Kirschbaum
“I thought that the training sessions, the fundraising talk in particular, were very useful. I was able to learn about how to work with the SU in order to improve my society/charity status from basic (often forgotten) details to more complex information.” – Chloe Lancaster
Thank you to everyone who attended and we wish you and your student groups a really successful year ahead!
