DUCK Week brings students and staff the best events in Durham whilst trying to raise as much money as possible for incredible causes in a single week! This year all money raised is going to the Local Charities Fund - the arm of DUCK that raises and donates money specifically to charitable projects in the North East. Last year, charities that we helped included Grace House, which provides a friendly and safe environment for young people living with challenging illnesses, and Just For Women Centre Stanley, which counsels and supports women who have been the victim of sexual or physical abuse.
Getting involved is easier than ever before as we have involved as many societies and colleges as possible! As well as physical events, we’ll be running a number of social media campaigns, some of which give you the chance to win great prizes as thanks for your charitable efforts!
Monday
DUCK is taking over the Domino’s Pub Quiz at the Students’ Union! For only £1 you get free pizza and a great night with friends whilst having contributed to our Local Charities Fund! What’s more you have the chance to win half of the entry money if your team has the greatest pub quiz knowledge! For those of you who prefer movies, Queen’s Campus are hosting a Harry Potter film night to get you excited for the Triwizard Ball happening next month!
Tuesday
Like and share to win! Enter our like and share competition to raise awareness of the charities we support - rumour has it the prize is two tickets to one of the biggest events in the DUCK calendar!
Wednesday
Look out for our whiteboard campaign at the Students' Union! Your chance to share what you love about DUCK and find out more about our upcoming events. Queen’s Campus will also be running a pub quiz at the Waterside Café!
Thursday
Your change can make a change! Donate your change from the Yum Cafés throughout Durham and the Durham SU Riverside Bar today and throughout the whole week to make a difference to the local community!
Friday
We turn the spotlight to colleges! The colleges throughout Durham will be putting on different charitable events so look out for the Josephine Butler Charity Auction, the Queen’s Campus cake sale and see what your college is doing! With it being so close to home and a chance to see all your friends there’s no reason not to!
About Duck
Durham University Charity Kommittee organises a huge range of amazing events throughout the year, which support local, national, and international charities. Highlights of the year so far have been Jailbreak – which saw participants negotiate their way to Cyprus, Tenerife, and Alicante for free – and the Santa Fun Run which had students and locals alike donning bright red Santa suits and white beards in aid of the British Heart Foundation! We’ve also organised club nights, rag raids and marathons both at home and abroad! Summer will see our expeditions teams travelling to help charities in eight global countries – India, Tanzania, Borneo, Cambodia, Uganda, Columbia, Thailand, and Peru. But if you want to stay local, we’re even offering students the chance to sleep in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the iconic setting of the Harry Potter films in our Cathedral Sleepout!
Duck gives you the chance to do extraordinary things for extraordinary causes, so make sure you get involved!
