Durham Students’ Union has called Dunelm House home for many years, and its unusual appearance and interesting architectural heritage have always been appreciated as a point of uniqueness. The Durham SU team look forward to the years to come in Dunelm House, with no plans for any move until after 2019, and will work with its student members and the University to capitalise on the current space.

Long-term however, the SU needs a modern, flexible space that can act as a hub for various parts of student life at Durham, and which can accommodate changing services and needs. Dunelm House doesn’t provide this versatility, and a change of building will provide an exciting opportunity to work with students and the University to address this.

Alice Dee, Durham SU President, “Dunelm House has had a huge role in Durham SU’s history and development, and I don’t doubt that our Officer team is far from being the first to have a love-hate relationship with it. It’s definitely unique! But student needs have to be foremost in our minds, especially access needs, and we know that a different SU space would serve students better than our current home. I’m also really excited for students in the future who will benefit from the ambitious cultural space that is intended for development along Elvet Riverside.”
