A bit about me...

Hi, my name is Mia, and I’m your Education Officer for the year 26/27!

I recently graduated with a degree in Modern Languages and Cultures, having studied Spanish, Italian and Catalan. During my time as a student, I was a member of Castle and involved in several SU language and law societies. Through these communities, I learnt the value of a Durham degree and saw how hard our students work, both in their studies and through extracurricular activities that help others achieve their full potential. That is the Durham difference.

As Education Officer, I will work to ensure that your voice is heard across the University. The SU and I are here to represent your academic interests, listen to your experiences and make sure that students have a say in the decisions that affect their education.

Studying at Durham can be both daunting and full of opportunity. I want every student to feel supported and able to make the most of their degree from the very beginning, regardless of the challenges they may face along the way.

This year, my priorities are to:

  • improve academic participation and outcomes, particularly for students facing additional barriers;
  • make academic guidance and students’ rights clearer and more accessible; and
  • build a stronger and more supportive academic community.

I sit on several University committees focused on the academic experience, and I am always happy to speak with students and bring your ideas into those discussions. I also chair a committee of Faculty Officers, who gather your feedback, ideas and concerns so that we can raise them with the relevant decision-makers.
