Durham University Pro Bono Society (DUPBS)

As an umbrella organisation, DUPBS encompasses and strengthens the existing student-run projects whilst also providing a platform of resources and guidance to launch new pro bono projects. DUPBS encourages students to apply the skills acquired through their academic degree for the betterment of the local community, while concurrently developing new competencies in students that enhance both their academic pursuits and professional growth.

Our 25/26 Projects include the following: 

1. DUPBS Pro Bono Clinic (partnered with Citizens Advice Durham, Muckle LLP, North East Pro Bono Committee and LawWorks); 

2. DUPBS Halo Project (partnered with Halo Charity), which spreads awareness about gender-based violence; and 

3. DUPBS Pro Bono Blog, which provides a platform for students at Durham University to write pro bono articles. 

Our significant accolades include the gracious acceptance by Baroness Hale of Richmond in September 2009 to serve as the Honorary Life President of the Society. Since then, the DUPBS' initiatives have been recognised at the Law School Awards for Best Student Law Society Contribution to Society in 2020.
