About Us

The Non-Law into Law Society was created to fill the gap in the Law societies available to join at Durham, with an alternative Law society that was exclusive to Non-Law students as well as to reflect how law firms are increasingly moving towards 50:50 Law: Non-Law recruitment. Therefore, as a society we work towards facilitating a smooth transition for Non-Law students at University into a career or further education in Law. We aim to make all aspiring student lawyers at Durham feel as prepared, supported, and confident as possible as they begin their journey into Law!

Through discussions with solicitors and barristers from Non-Law backgrounds (often Durham Alumni), we are able to display how the skills and experiences you gain from studying in other areas can provide you with a competitive advantage that can make you a stronger candidate.

Furthermore, by hosting workshops with top law firms and prestigious organisations we seek to demonstrate how recruiters themselves recognise and value the transferable skills that non-law graduates bring to the table from studying other subjects.

Finally, joining our society and getting involved in our events is a great way for non-law students to demonstrate their commitment to law. We provide invaluable legal opportunities and all the events we conduct are vital in helping students decide through first-hand experience whether a career in law is for them and make the whole process less daunting.
