About Us
The Durham Natural History Society aims to create an inclusive and engaging community of students who appreciate the natural world's wonder, beauty, and complexity. We want to explore how we can support biodiversity during the ecological crisis we currently face. The society is inclusive to all students whether you are a biologist or not!
We welcome students from all subjects who love nature, are keen to learn more about the vast diversity of organisms found all around us and value the positive physical and mental health benefits offered by nature. We offer many events which cater to different areas and levels of interest, such as
Fascinating talks delivered by guest speakers,
Guided naturalist walks and trips exploring the wildlife around Durham and beyond
Workshops collaborating with other societies to explore how nature and wildlife influences our lives in other ways
Themed socials to meet like-minded people
More practical events include:
Conservation-based projects where you can get involved while learning more about habitats by getting your hands nice and dirty
Citizen science projects where you will learn more about identification across many clades to collect invaluable scientific data used for studying biodiversity and examining the health of ecosystems
Whether you are mad about moths, positive for plants, or birds make you brazen, we look forward to meeting you all!
