Fintech Society

DUFTS is Durham University Fintech Society. Relaunched in early 2025, we're run entirely by students and open to anyone interested in where finance and technology meet.

We run workshops, talks, socials and careers panels through the year, covering things like AI, DeFi, digital banking and blockchain. Past talks include Privacy on Public Blockchains with Oxford researcher Andrey Kravchenko, Financial Stability with Algorithmic Trading from Durham's own Professor Clara Martins Pereira, and a Technologist Field Guide to Capital Markets run by Scott Logic. On the workshop side we've done an introduction to Polkadot and PSP34 tokens, plus a Legal and Technical Perspectives careers panel for people trying to work out where they fit in the industry.

We also send teams to hackathons and conferences, in the UK and abroad. Students have represented the society in Oxford, London, Paris, Barcelona and Hong Kong, with several projects picking up recognition from judges. We've worked with HSBC, EasyA, Atom Bank, Scott Logic and Accenture and many more, which puts our members in a room with people actually building this stuff.

You don't need a finance or coding background to join. Membership is through this page, and we post everything on Instagram and LinkedIn.
