Overview

This session is not suitable for complete beginners, or for beginners to practice moves they are not confident in unsupervised.

What should I wear to class?

Clothes you feel comfortable to exercise in! In terms of trousers, wearing ankle length leggings or joggers will help to cushion the back of your knees, which will make some move on the apparatus more comfortable. For intermediate classes, wearing long sleeved tops may help for any elbow hangs.

What should I bring to class?

Water and a snack for after the class! Bring your friends too!

Is it okay if I’m not very strong or flexible?

Yes, absolutely! You don’t need strength or flexibility to do aerial! Everyone starts at different places and progresses at different rates. Our instructors are there to support you no matter your skill level! Aerial is a great sport for if you want to improve your strength, balance and flexibility.

Can I come to the drop in sessions?

Yes! Drop in sessions are for anyone who wants extra time on the hoop/silks. We encourage you to come even if you’ve only been to a few beginner classes. Just bear in mind that these sessions are not supervised so we would not recommend that beginners practice new moves in them. Having said that, there’s always a supportive group of aerialists there, so if you’re in need of any help practicing outside of classes there will be people who would love to help out!

I’m worried that aerial won’t be accessible for me.

Please contact us (Instagram, email, in person) if accessibility is a worry. There’s lots that can be changed in aerial, from height and move difficulty to instruction method and room lighting. We will do everything we can to support everyone.

Where do the classes take place?

Classes are in the SU building and are either in the ballroom or the vane tempest. If you go all the way down the staircase in the SU, you’ll reach a set of doors with more stairs behind them - immediately to your left is the vane tempest and down those stairs to the bottom floor is the ballroom.
