Election FAQs

Can we do online elections?

Yes, we can set up the elections for your group through our website so your members can vote and the election is fair and democratic. Our elections use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) which is more representative than First Past the Post used in most AGM’s.

What information do we need to supply?

We need:

  • Position names and descriptions
  • Nomination period times
  • Voting period times

How can we self-nominate

Members of your group can log in to the website, go to their own account, and locate ‘my nominations’ down the left hand side.

This should then allow them to see all available elections that they are eligible for. Please note only paid members through our website can nominate themselves for election.

How long should we keep voting open for?

You can decide how long you keep voting open for but we would recommend 4 days.

HOW CAN WE VOTE?

Only members who have signed up through the website to be a member of your society can vote. They can vote using this address www.durhamsu.com/evoting_election_votings and then they will need to sign in to be able to vote. You will be asked to put the candidates in a preference order, 1 being your most preferred candidate.

HOW CAN WE FIND OUT THE RESULTS?

We will email the results to you the next working day after voting closes.

DO WE HAVE TO PROVIDE MANIFESTOS?

You don’t have to provide manifestos but we would strongly encourage you to do so. You can send the manifestos in with the self-nomination and then voters can see this when they log in to cast their vote. You can also upload a picture of yourself to go alongside your manifesto.
