We began life as the Graduate Society, a body postgraduate students could join instead of one of the colleges. In 2003, the society was renamed Ustinov College after the former Chancellor of Durham University, Oscar-winning actor Peter Ustinov. Ustinov has recently moved to a new site at Sheraton Park and takes around 50% of the University's postgraduate students! The Graduate Common Room (GCR) is the Ustinov equivalent of a JCR in undergrad colleges, representing students and organising events for them like parties and formals.
We spoke to Ustinov’s Durham SU Liaison Officer, Alex Hampton, to find out a little more about the college.
