Mary’s was established in 1899, and consequently is Durham's third oldest college. Originally it was founded as a women-only college, but has now been mixed for some time, and comprises around 750 undergraduate members and 150 postgraduates. St Mary’s started off on the bailey but now is housed in an impressive neoclassical building with huge grounds at the foot of the hill, in perfect position to access the science site, and not far from town either! Mary’s today mixes the best of its history and traditions, with a sense of modernity and progressive values.
