Media Law Training

Durham SU is hosting free media law training for any student involved in, or with an interest in communications, promotions or media.

The session will cover a range of media law topics to help members of student media, groups that receive media queries and those with communications roles within Common Room Exec teams publishing online or in physical form to safely undertake their roles.

The training will cover defamation, contempt of court/lawful reporting of criminal cases, the OFCOM broadcasting code and IPSO editorial code, use of copyrighted materials, privacy, election reporting and what actions to take if a problem arises or you receive a complaint about something you or your group have published.

The full day session will be delivered virtually (Zoom links will be sent closer to the time) by Adam Lindsay, who is a BBC journalist (working for Radio 2, 3, 4 and 6Music) and a former Sussex sabbatical officer.
