Voting and campaigning in this year’s Officer and Trustee elections is now over. Thank you to all who have taken part, whether through standing for a position, supporting a candidate or voting in the election.

Unfortunately we are unable to declare the results at this point, as the Returning Officer is still investigating outstanding complaints. We are doing everything we can to get things resolved as soon as possible so we can let you, our members, know the outcome of the election. We are required by our election regulations to resolve all complaints in full before declaring the results in any election. Any of our members have a right to submit a complaint during any election process, and we also have a responsibility to these members to resolve their complaints, before the results are declared. We are committed to being both thorough and timely during this process and we want to thank you for your patience while we get this right.

There have been a lot of questions asked during this election about the way it has been run. We recognise that students want reassurance on the democratic processes that exist to serve them. This is why we volunteered for an independent review of the elections, as we announced earlier in the week, and the Durham University Secretary has agreed to undertake an independent external review of the 2020 Officer and Trustee election.
